Instagram’s Latest Launch of New Co-Watching Feature is What Every Person in Quarantine Needs!

Yeah! Let’s go awww... over this update!

With everybody locked down and missing out on the interaction with their best buddies, which can be even next door, due to all the social distancing, it has become boring and moreover the most stressful days of anyone’s life!

While we are going all, ‘Quarantine and Chill’ over Instagram, deep down we expect to go out soon and meet our friends.

So, if you are losing it all, and feel like you can’t continue anymore (just like me! @sassyscribbler), look at this -

“Instagram is adding a new feature that aims to help users connect via video chat! And, not only this, but it comes with the option of also scrolling through the Instagram feed while still being connected via video link.”

So, connect amidst the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown!

This means, now you can scroll Instagram together with friends. The co-watching feature allows friends on a video chat or group chat browse through the feed posts, which are liked or saved by the user or recommended by Instagram.

It is intended to encourage people -

  • To stay indoor.
  • To fight the misinformation.
  • And, to use the platform healthily!

Fair enough!

‘Co-Watching’ feature

This is how Instagram’s new ‘Co-Watching’ feature looks like! It enables users to search through Instagram and also share the content with the group while being on the call.

You guys can go all gaga over this feature, and talk about Instagram’s content instead of waiting for a reply from a single person or posting it on the group chat thread.

This leads to long usage sessions, motivate users to collect a great list of saved posts to share and also choose more video calls over the DMs.

This drags more people into the application.

To this Instagram explained -

“To help people stay connected, we’ve launched media sharing, a new feature that allows you to view Instagram posts together with your friends over video chat. You can start a video chat by tapping the video chat icon in the Direct inbox or in an existing Direct thread, then view saved, liked and suggested photos/videos by tapping the photo icon in the bottom left corner in an ongoing video chat.”

But, here is a bummer - You can’t scroll through your regular feed! But, you can create a list of posts that you would love to share!

 group video/screen sharing application

Instagram has, obviously, pushed the development of the tool in the response of the lockdowns! With the feature similar to group video/screen sharing application Squad, it has also enabled up to 6 concurrent viewers to join.

It provides the best way to stay in touch - without even touching! It is a fun and engaging way!

And, for the branding or marketing sense, it could also provide a means to boost engagement with small groups! If someone saves your posts and share it with a group of people, for instance, if your products are shared, then you can find the top fans via this option.

The launch comes along with other things like -

  1. It has also made it easier to create your own funding drives for non-profits working. This is to address the issues surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a new, dedicated section within your Donation sticker options which highlights charities relating to it.
  2. It has added more educational resources in Instagram Search.
  3. Adding stickers to promote accurate information.
  4. Removing unofficial COVID-19 content and accounts from recommendations unless posted by a credible health organization.
  5. Expanding the donation sticker to more countries so people can search for and ask their friends for contributions to relevant non-profit drives.

This is a part of Instagram’s step to help raise awareness of COVID-19 among people all over the world. This will hopefully raise more contributions to fundraising efforts! Plus, help those who are bored and wish to connect with their friends.

Let’s take a pledge to stay home, and stay safe!

We’ll meet our friends, family, and colleagues when things will fall onto right place.

Till then, ciao!
